Mickey Hal Champion
( April 21, 1935 - December 15, 2023 )
Mickey Champion, age 88, of the Gastonia Highway in Lincolnton, died on Friday, December 15, 2023, at The Greens of Lincolnton.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harvey Gates officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mr. Champion was born April 21, 1935, in Cleveland County, to the late Raleigh H. Champion and Gomelia Jackson Champion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Madge Parker Champion. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and later worked as an executive director of the Salvation Army. Mickey was a chaplain with the North Carolina Department of Corrections at both the Lincoln and Dallas Campus.
He is survived by a son, Terry Champion (Dianna) of Cherryville; daughters, Vickie McIntyre and Sheila Champion (Cecil), all of Shelby, and Michelle Hartman (Andre) of Lincolnton; two brothers, Ken Champion and Buddy Champion (Kathryn); eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Blazin’ Trails Cowboy Church, 1222 Ponderosa Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
