John William Digh, Sr.

John William Digh Sr., age 88 of Lincolnton died at his home on Sunday, December 24, 2023.
John was born October 24, 1935, in Lincoln County, North Carolina, to the late Samuel Franklin Digh and Wilmer Caldwell Digh. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers Robert Samuel Digh and Glenn Wesley Digh, and sisters Pernell Digh Ross, Mae Digh Ledbetter, and Nolean Digh Davis.
John served in the US Navy from 1954 to 1958. He worked for Tarheel Express and Carolina Freight, retiring in 1995. He was an active member of Bethphage Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities, including the Church Council for several years. He was honored with the title Church Council Member Emeritus in 2019. He was an avid antique clock collector and clock repairman. He enjoyed many beach trips with his family to Windy Hill, SC and Oak Island, NC.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Phyllis Saine Digh; daughter Cresconda Jonavonne Digh; son John William Digh Jr.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 27 from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM at Bethphage Lutheran Church in Lincolnton, NC, with funeral services to follow at 3:00 PM. Rev. Tom Beers will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers for Mr. Digh’s service are John Davis, Don Edwards, Keith Heavner, Jeff Ledbetter, Sam Ledbetter, and Rusty Saine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Bethphage Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund, 3440 Hwy 182, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
