Irene Jenkins Fortenberry
( August 28, 1941 - February 7, 2024 )
Irene Jenkins Fortenberry, daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend; age 82 of Lincolnton, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. Born August 28, 1941, to Thomas D. Jenkins and Pearl Crouse Jenkins.
Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 9, 2024, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Devine officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Lori Lawing; son-in-law, David Helms; grandchildren, Jennifer Lemons (Brad), Candace Helms, Stephanie Lawing (Luke), Bradley Lawing; brother, Thomas “Butch” Jenkins (Bobbie), and sister, Hazel Goins; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Pearl Jenkins; husband, Walter Landon Fortenberry; daughter, Sandra Fortenberry Helms; brothers, Albert, Howard, and Lynn Jenkins; and sister, Willie Brooks.
Irene was an avid gardener and flea market connoisseur who was devoted to her family. She was a blessing to all that knew her love.
In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County (VIA Health Partners), 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
