Diane Baxter Brogden
( March 10, 1944 - February 22, 2024 )
Diane Baxter Brogden, of Lincolnton, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024.
She was born March 10, 1944, and grew up in Shelby. She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Quay Baxter, who was killed in WWII; Wilma Wright Baxter Grigg; step-father, Carl Grigg; and brothers Tommy Baxter and Carl Grigg, Jr.
Diane is survived by Harry Brogden, her BEST FRIEND and loving husband of 58 years. Also survived by two sons, Lee Brogden and wife Mary of Greensboro and Chris Brogden and wife Jenny of Lincolnton; five wonderful grandchildren, Harrison (Jenn), Mary Claire and Elizabeth Brogden, and Luke (Elizabeth) and Miller Brogden; sister-in-law Julia Baxter; special nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; ……AND Faithful companion, Lily!
Diane met Harry in Pharmacy School at Chapel Hill. They operated the Drugstore in Lincolnton for nearly 25 years. After retiring, she volunteered at The Helping Hands Health Clinic. Diane was a faithful, active member of First Baptist Church where she served on The Building & Grounds and other committees, but especially enjoyed her many years as The TopAgers (Senior Adult) Leader. She was a charter member and past president of The Lincolnton Sunrise Rotary Club; member and past president of the Review Book Club; and delivered Linc Meals for some twenty years. She enjoyed taking care of people and had a gift of hospitality and always knowing the right way to reach out to folks. She was named Lincoln County Woman of the Year in 2002. She was an avid gardener and simply loved digging in the dirt while enjoying God’s creation.
A service to celebrate Diane’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Stanley Spence and Rev. Dr. Dixon Free officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. before the service. A private graveside will be at Hollybrook Cemetery.
