( December 24, 1933 - April 12, 2024 )
Norman Keith Rash, age 90, passed away with loved ones surrounding him Friday April 12, 2024 at Atrium Health Center in Lincolnton.
Norman was born December 24, 1933 in Lincoln County. He was a devoted lifelong member of Lander's Chapel United Methodist Church and held many leadership roles over the years. He was employed by Sonoco Products as a maintenance supervisor for over 30 years.
Norman is survived his daughter Denise Rash (Mike Carpenter); son, Brian Rash (Tim Griffin) , all of Gaston County; sister Mary Sue 'Mick' Scronce of Lincolnton; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; and his special friend of 17 years Wanda Hammer.
Norman was an expert gardener growing most of his plants from seed. He also loved to plant flowers for Peggy. Norman and several men in the Community established and ran the Landers Chapel Community Meals for 5 plus years. These men cooked the meals and anyone who wanted to come could and pay whatever they wanted and typically the room would be full especially when they served steak and gravy. They also took many plates out to the shut-ins in the community free of charge. With their profits, they would help folks in the community – that needed help with power bills, oil bills, and many other things. Norman was a talented cook and was well known for his sour dough bread. He also took awards for an apple dessert at the Lincoln County apple festival and won first place at the Mast General Store for his Mexican Cornbread. He was the Lander's Chapel poll precinct manager in Gaston Country for many years inheriting that job from his father, Fred Rash. Norman went on 2 building team missions traveling to Haiti with Joe Ervin as the leader. Norman was an Army veteran serving during the Berlin Crisis.
Memorials may be made to Lander's Chapel United Methodist Church, 1205 Long Shoals Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092
