Gene Matthew Canipe

Gene Matthew Canipe, age 90, died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 25, 2024. Even in his last few months of illness, he had a bright smile and never failed to thank everyone who helped him in times of need.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church with Dr. Jonathan LeMaster-Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday, June 1, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. at Reeps Grove United Methodist Church.
Mr. Canipe was born March 12, 1934, in Lincoln County, to the late Marcellus John Anderson Canipe and Mary Alma Houser Canipe. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Katherine Jane “Pete” Hauss Canipe. Along with his parents; he was also preceded in death by his brother, Hatcher Lester Canipe Sr., and sister Betty Jane Canipe Jackson. Gene was an avid outdoorsman who visited much of North America. He was a hard worker as evidenced by 30 years of service with Carolina Freight. He was a United States Army veteran who served in Korea in the late 1950s.
He is survived by his nephews, Les Canipe and wife Pam, Marc Canipe, Mark Lackey and wife Heather; niece Billye Roland and husband Brent; brothers-in-law Roy Hoyle and Kermit Lackey; sister-in-law Betty Jo Hauss, and many great-nieces and great-nephews who adored him.
Memorials may be made to Reeps Grove United Methodist Church, 7401 Reeps Grove Church Road, Vale, NC 28168.
