Walter Furman Martin, Jr.

Walter Furman Martin, Jr., age 88, of Mirror Lake Road in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, July 18, 2024.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at McKendree Methodist Church with Rev. Greg Richard and Rev. Gregg Plott officiating. Inurnment will take place in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
Mr. Martin was born August 9, 1935, in Lincoln County, to the late Walter Furman Martin, Sr. and Josephine Jones Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Nolen Martin; and two sisters, Mary Spake and Sylvia Harwood. Walter attended West Mecklenburg High School and enlisted in the United States Army and National Guard for a total of 20 years. He later worked as a supervisor and printer at Wallace Business Forms for 33 years, and was a member of the Cotton Gin and VFW.
He is survived by his son, Scott Martin (Trudy) of Gastonia; two brothers, Bill Martin of Blacksburg, SC, and Tony Martin (Dianne) of Mt. Holly; two step-sons, Doug Ratteerree of Charlotte, and Tim Ratteerree (Susan) of Gastonia; step-daughter, Kim Hudson (Jerry) of Lincolnton; five grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
He was a wonderful and loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He was affectionately known as ‘Papaw’ to his grandchildren.
