Born in Rochester, New York to the late Virginia Cameron Penfield and Addison Pierce Penfield, Nancy spent her childhood in Greensboro skipping and biking through the campus of Guilford College. Nancy’s childhood friends will tell you to this day that they never once had an argument or harsh word; a sentiment shared by all who were fortunate enough to make her acquaintance. Her kindness and presence was always nothing short of vibrant with the many friends and family who were blessed to experience her grace and love.
Nancy is survived by her husband Conrad, her three children James Christopher Wease and daughter in law Stacey Rice Wease, Amy Cameron Stonehouse and her son in law Chris Stonehouse and Elizabeth Addison LaFon, her eight grandchildren Hannah Wease, Brackett Wease, Everett Wease, Gus Bunker, Emmy Kay Bunker, Harper LaFon, Tucker LaFon and Pressley LaFon. Her favorite days were spent surrounded by those eight grandchildren and their Famous ‘Nana-Camp’.
A graduate of Grimsley High School and East Carolina University, Nancy taught school, needlepoint and knitting and created countless works of art. She and Conrad were married in her home church in Saint Francis Episcopal Church in Greensboro in 1970 and the children were all raised in Charlotte where she was an avid PTA participant, choir member and beloved friend to so many. A good education, quality friends and family time were among the primary principles she instilled in her children and grandchildren.
Nancy’s story cannot be told without mentioning her love of music and animals. A celebration of her life will be planned to occur at 3 pm on Saturday, November 2nd at St Peter by-the-lake Episcopal Church, with Reverend Dr. Ron Taylor officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church garden columbarium and then a reception for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests anyone so inclined to consider tax exempt donations to National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke at: NINDS, PO Box 5801, Bethesda, MD 20824. Or https://gofund.me/c6aa5400
