Murriel E. Slaughter Shuford
( December 13, 1937 - December 28, 2024 )
Murriel E. Slaughter Shuford, age 87, of Newton went home to be with the Lord with loving family by her side on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at her residence.
Murriel was born on December 13, 1937 to the late Jacob Luther “Jake” and Lula Belle Moore Slaughter. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Winslow Shuford, five brothers and eight sisters. Before becoming a homemaker, she worked in the furniture and textile industry. Alongside her husband, she was a Charter Member and founder of Jacobs Fork Baptist Church. Mom enjoyed growing and attending to her flowers and spending time with her family who she raised with her unwavering faith and dedication to the Lord. She and Daddy filled our hearts with love and will be dearly missed until we’re all together again.
Murriel is survived by two sons, Fred W. Shuford, Jr. (Donna) of Crouse and Gerald L. Shuford (Sandra) of Newton; two daughters, Sandra Shuford Ray (Kevin) of Lincolnton and Shelia Shuford Poovey (Billy) of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren, Tiffany and Hannah Shuford, Zachary (Erica) Shuford, Kelsey Bivens, Ashley (Micheal) Chapman, Logan (Sarah) Ray and Kayden Ray; five great-grandchildren, Grayson Shuford, Collin and Reece Chapman, Berklee and Grady Ray.
A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
