Emma Irene Crowe Black

Emma Irene Crowe Black, age 87, of Graham Road in Denver, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025. Mrs. Black was born January 22, 1937, in Rutherford County, North Carolina, daughter of the late William and Annie Mae Murray Crowe.
Mrs. Black is survived by her husband of 64 years, Larry Black of the home; sons, Larry Keith Black (Julie) of Stanley, NC, and Jeffrey Scott Black of Denver, NC; daughter, Cynthia Black Fortenberry (Jimmy) of Denver, NC; brothers, Rev. William Crowe (Dolly) of Matthews, NC, and Bobby Crowe (Diane) of Bostic, NC; sisters, Rosa Simmons of Mount Holly, NC, Mary Ann Blackwell of Georgia, and Nina Gettys (Maynard) of Ellenboro, NC; grandchildren, Madison Black, Jennings Storie (Sam), Samantha Black, Evan Black, and Matthew Fortenberry (Arlie); and great-grandchildren, Asher, Henry, and Eleanor Fortenberry.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Black was preceded in death by her brother, Bufford Crowe; sister, Revonda Carswell; and granddaughter, Sarah Fortenberry.
A funeral service for Mrs. Black will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Unity Presbyterian Church, Denver, NC, with Reverend David Bonnema and Reverend Keith Sherrill officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
