Edna Langston Garlow
( August 4, 1942 - January 6, 2025 )
Edna Earl Langston Garlow was granted her angel wings on January 6, 2025. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whose lives she touched throughout her remarkable life.
Born in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina, Edna graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School before attending North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, where she earned a degree in music. It was during her time at Wesleyan that she met the love of her life, Gary M. Garlow. The two married after graduation and embarked on a journey together that spanned six decades, building a life filled with love, family, and service.
Edna’s passion for community and faith was evident in every aspect of her life. She served as a Girl Scout leader and as President of the Junior Woman's Club in Eastern North Carolina, roles that reflected her dedication to service and leadership. Her deep connection to her faith shone through her involvement in the music programs at Grace Methodist Church in Wilmington, NC, and Denver United Methodist Church in Denver, NC. A devoted teacher of discipleship and an active participant in church organizations, Edna’s unwavering faith guided her actions and inspired those around her.
In 1987, Edna and Gary moved to Denver, NC, where she became a Teacher Assistant at Rock Springs Elementary School. Her love for children was evident in her work there, as she nurtured young minds with kindness and care. Beyond her professional endeavors, Edna cherished animals, enjoyed reading, playing cards with loved ones, traveling to new places, and sharing laughter with her family.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Edna Langston; and her brother, William Lewis Langston. She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty years, Gary M. Garlow; their three sons: Christopher (Wendi), Robert (Jennifer), and Scott (Tamara); six grandchildren Jordan Jeffries (JJ), Kristyn Armstrong (Kyle), Zachary Garlow, Austin Garlow, Taylor welch (Cary), Kennedy (Andrew); seven great-grandchildren; and countless others who loved her dearly.
A graveside interment will take place on Thursday, January 9, 2025. A celebration of life will follow on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Denver United Methodist Church sanctuary with a gathering afterward at Verdict Ridge Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Edna L. and Gary M. Garlow Endowment Fund c/o Denver United Methodist Church, 3910 Highway 16 North, Denver, NC 28037.
Edna’s legacy of love and service will continue to inspire all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing.
