Roy Leo Christopher
( April 19, 1932 - January 14, 2025 )
Roy Leo Christopher, 92, of Iron Station, NC passed away Tuesday, January 14th. He was born April 19, 1932 in Lincoln County, the eldest son of the late Horace W. Christopher and Mozelle L. Christopher. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Reel Christopher, and his brother, William “Leonard” Christopher. Through God’s grace and his enduring spirit, Roy embraced life with a quirky, witty charm that was uniquely his. His infectious personality had a way of brightening even the darkest moments, offering those around him a glimpse into the sunny side of life.

Roy loved his country, and proudly served in the Korean War. It was there he developed a love for all things mechanical, eventually amassing an extensive collection. He spanned a 40 year career with Jefferson Pilot Broadcasting Co, becoming a technician with WBTV on Spencer Mountain. He was devoted to his work, but his life was centered around family. Music was an important part of his life, instilling in us the love of hymns and folk songs as he played the guitar and sang. His love, humor, and enduring faith left an indelible mark on our lives.

Roy, lovingly known as “Papaw”, or Leo, by friends, is survived by his sister, Elizabeth “Louise” Houser of Lincolnton, NC, and his four daughters, Sandra Kiser (Craig) of Cary, NC, Kimberly Barneycastle (Frank) of Denver, NC, Ramona Green of Raleigh, NC, and Heidi Cook (Bill) of Kingsport, TN. He leaves behind 14 grandchildren, and 19 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, PO Box 7023, Merrifield, VA  22116-7023.
