Betty Hill Barkley

Betty Jo Hill Barkley, age 87, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2025 at Lenoir Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lenoir.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2025 in the Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery at Centrepoint Baptist Church in Huntersville, with Rev. Tim Chambers officiating. The family will spend time with friends following the service.
Mrs. Barkley was born October 10, 1937 in Polkton, daughter of the late James Pleasant Hill and Irma Tucker Hill. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Cliff Barkley, Sr.; brother David Wilson Hill; and sister Linda Hill Tucker. She attended Wingate Junior College, served as church organist, worked for many years at Crewco in Cornelius, and spent 20 years as a biscuit maker and cashier at Hardee's in Cornelius and Stanley.
Betty loved to travel and took many tours of the United States. She especially loved seeing Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountains, and the tour that took her across all of Canada. She pored over every new catalog and was always planning her next trip.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert Cliff Barkley, Jr. and James W. Barkley of Lincolnton, and Joe H. Barkley (Sari-Beth Esmail) of Chicago, IL; grandchild, Heather Barkley DePietro (Luke) of Cherryville; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Lucas, and Audrey.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
